About Kubernetes

Kubernetes is an open-source platform for automating the deployment, scaling and management of containerized applications. Instead of placing containers on servers by hand, you declare the desired state of your system and Kubernetes continuously works to maintain it, handling scheduling, service discovery, load balancing, rolling updates and self-healing when containers fail. Platform and DevOps teams use it as the standard foundation for running microservices across on-premises, hybrid and public cloud environments. Kubernetes itself is completely free and open source under the Apache 2.0 license; you only pay for the infrastructure it runs on or an optional managed service.
